I received the Royal Geographical Society’s Ordnance Survey Award for excellence in secondary geography education in 2019. I have more than 25 years’ experience teaching geography at GCSE and A Level, including five years as National Geography Lead across eight secondary schools.

My work has included curriculum and assessment design, teacher development and supporting students and departments to improve achievement. This means that tutoring goes beyond practising individual examination questions: I help students strengthen their knowledge, make better geographical connections, interpret unfamiliar information and construct confident, well-supported responses.

My most recent classroom experience is with AQA GCSE and OCR A Level Geography. I am a Chartered Geographer and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, with an Enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service.

Making sense of our world

Geography helps students understand the places, people, environments and interconnected systems that shape the world around them. It provides a framework for exploring major issues such as climate change, inequality, migration, urbanisation, sustainability and the management of natural resources.

Through supportive and carefully focused tutoring, I aim to help students strengthen their knowledge, make connections, interpret evidence and explain geographical ideas clearly.

Alongside improving examination performance, students develop highly valued transferable skills in analysis, reasoning, data interpretation, evaluation and decision-making. In a world increasingly shaped by environmental change, technological development and global interdependence, these skills are valuable across education and employment, particularly within the rapidly expanding green economy.

My aim is to help each student succeed while encouraging the curiosity that makes Geography such an important and rewarding subject.

How tutoring works

Step 1: Initial discussion and diagnostic review

We begin with a conversation about the student’s course, current confidence and priorities for support. This helps me understand where they are starting from and ensure that tutoring is focused on the areas that will make the greatest difference.

Step 2: Focused tutoring sessions

Sessions are shaped around the student’s individual needs and priorities. We work together through clear explanation, questioning, modelling and guided practice, with focused feedback to build understanding and confidence.

Step 3: Ongoing review and next steps

We regularly review progress together and agree the most useful next steps. To make the most of each session, students will usually complete some carefully chosen practice between lessons, helping to reinforce learning, maintain momentum and maximise progress.

Current availability will be discussed during the initial enquiry.

Fees are agreed and confirmed before tutoring begins.
The current online rate is £60 for a 60-minute session.

At least 24 hours' notice is normally required to cancel or rearrange a session. Shorter-notice cancellations will usually remain chargeable, except in exceptional circumstances.

Communication with parents or carers

Tutoring is usually delivered online through Microsoft Teams*, allowing students to share work, resources and feedback during the session.

Sessions normally last up to 60 minutes and can take place weekly or at another agreed frequency.

Support is available for students studying GCSE or A Level Geography. Suitability for particular specifications or topics can be discussed during the initial enquiry.

For students under 18, arrangements and progress will normally be communicated through a parent or carer. Brief updates can be provided where appropriate.

Before tutoring begins, full arrangements will be agreed and confirmed with parents or carers by email. This follows an initial discussion about the student’s needs and the most suitable tutoring approach.

In-person tutoring may also be available in some parts of Cambridgeshire, depending on location and availability. Please ask during your initial enquiry. An additional travel charge may apply and will always be agreed before tutoring begins.
